Red is a wonderful and powerful colour and it makes a bold statement. As it’s the colour of blood, fire, love, strength, energy and emotions that ‘stir the blood’ it can be sometimes aggressive, and can have a negative as well as a positive suggestion.
Decorating with red needs a cautious thought, but that doesn’t mean you need to avoid it, and it work s especially well for details, accessories and a meaning to obtain a focal point. It looks innocent with white in a gingham check; rustic with orange and brown; seductive as satin and velvet; cheerful in candy stripes or scrumptious as a bowl of cherries.
It will bring extra warmth for a room used mostly at night. It stimulates the appetite, making it idyllic for a dining room. Traditionally, it has been the colour of love and sex, so it may be perfect for a bedroom if sleeping is the last thing on your mind!
